As students at Akron's I Promise School are set to begin the new year, school officials are responding to reports of poor test scores from the inaugural class.

None of the kids from that initial 2018-2019 I Promise class passed their math proficiency tests, according to the state's most recent report cards from last school year.

In separate statements released to the media, the LeBron James Family Foundation, I Promise School Principal Stephanie Davis and the school's Family Resource Center Senior Director Victoria McGee cited pandemic challenges and the disruption to students and their families.

Additionally, I Promise officials said they are in it for the "long haul" with their students and are committed to improving state test scores.

I Promise is a public school founded by LeBron James and its purpose is to help at-risk children.
