ON TODAY'S PROGRAM, I ASKED LISTENERS if they knew what the US military considered blowing up in the late 1950's. In case you missed it, the answer was the moon!! Not kidding. When the USSR launched Sputnik, we were looking for a way to outdo the Russians...so...bombing the moon with an atom bomb was considered by the government and the military. Carl Sagan was in on the whole thing. We figured one atom bomb hitting the moon and visible on earth would show the Ruskies they weren't dealing with a bunch of know-nothings. The Air Force will not comment on the story first made public by Sagan's biographer Keay Davidson.
CNN RELEASED A POLL YESTERDAY, and guess what, 2 out of every 3 Americans believe that elected officials in Washington will behave mostly like spoiled children in the upcoming budget negotiations. Fewer government services, your economy will go into recession FAST, the feds would want their highways back as well as airports and university research funding and might even demand refunds on various items. Add to that the loss of federal courthouses, prisons, national parks, and military bases. The NEW countries would also need some sort of healthcare system, a military, disaster relief, a postal service, an FBI, FDA,CIA etc. I think I'll stay right here in the good ole' USA!
