WOW!!  AS A FAN OF THE MID AMERICAN CONFERENCE, I was very disappointed with the result of the Go Daddy.com bowl last night in Mobile, Alabama.  While the Flashes played great defense for the most part, they had NO offense.  Not to put the blame on anyone, but Kent had zero passing game.  The Flashes were, for the most part, an old fashioned ground game football team (Woody would have been proud).  However, when it comes to the MAC championship and bowl games, a solid quarterback along with a bruising backfield is a must if your going to win.  It was still a great year for KSU and I'll be looking ahead to the new coach and the new season in September.  In the mean time, thrill to the Kent basketball team on 640 WHLO.  We'll broadcast every game throughout the season.

THE RECENT SHOOTING IN FIRESTONE PARK IS ANOTHER sign that things are crazy everywhere.  I cannot understand why some people (apparently a growing number) feel that the best way to solve any issue is with a gun.  While we have no concrete info on this killing, it seems to be a domestic issue.  Rumors have it that a father didn't like the way his children were being raised and apparently figured shooting people was the way to solve the problem (again this is just a rumor).  One thing we do know for sure, the alleged shooter was already in trouble for taking a gun into a bar in Barberton.  Stick with 640 WHLO news and we'll let you know the latest.

LET ME GET BACK TO FOOTBALL FOR JUST A moment.  The Cleveland Browns new owner went to Arizona over the weekend to hire a new coach (Oregon's Chip Kelly).  Reports on Saturday indicated it was a done deal (almost).  Then on Sunday we learn Kelly WILL NOT be the next coach of your Cleveland Browns.  What happened?  I don't know yet, but I think the Browns blew it, because anyone they interview for the job now will know they weren't the first choice.  I've often thought it's best to keep these things under wraps (as much as you can) until a final decision has been made.  By the way, as of today it looks like Kelly will stay in Oregon.  Makes you wonder if Kelly blew the interview or never had any intention of leaving Oregon in the first place.  I'm sure we'll know later today.
