IF YOU'RE A MOVIE BUFF, THIS SHOULD be an exciting day for you. The Academy Awards nominations were released today in Los Angeles. Nominated for movie of the year are the following...Argo, Lincoln, Amour, Beasts of The Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life Of Pi, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark 30. All but "Amour" and "Beasts of The Southern Wild" are currently showing at local theatres. So while it's going to be warm this weekend, it's also supposed to rain...a lot. So take in a movie. When the Academy awards this years winners, it'll mean more to you if you've seen the flicks.
WHILE THE FOLLOWING SHOW DOESN'T occur until Tuesday evening, it would still be worth your time. The Cleveland Orchestra will perform their annual Akron concert at E.J.Thomas Hall. Tickets are available to see one of the top 3 orchestras in the world. Let's face it, we could all use a little culture!
SPEAKING OF CULTURE, THE RUBBER CITY Roller Girls have their home opener this Saturday night at The John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron. Showtime is 5pm and tickets are STILL available at www.rubbercityrollergirls.com. The opposition will be the Cleveland Burning River Hazmat Crew.
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOMETHING completely different for lunch tomorrow, how about the Firefighters Chili Challenge. It happens from 11am to 1:30pm at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron. I went last year and had a ball. Not so much after the chili took effect, but if I can get away from work early enough, I'll see you there.
JOIN ME FROM 9 to noon tomorrow morning for the Jim Albright Show on 640 WHLO. Jim
