NOW THAT FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER, sports fans (myself included) turn our full attention to basketball. As you probably know, all Kent State mens and womens roundball games can be heard on 640 WHLO. Meanwhile, the University of Akron men's and women's games are aired on our sister station...FoxSports 1350. While I'm on the subject of the Zips, the mens team is having one of the better seasons in the schools history. With a win tonight, the Zips will tie the all time longest winning streak in UA history. Their current winning streak is 13 in a row. The all time record was set in the 1972-73 season, 14 consecutive wins. Wow, that goes all the way back to my high school days, but I remember it well. The coach was Wyatt Webb and the Zips ended up in the Division 2 national championship game (they lost). Apparently the local fans have discovered this exciting team. The last two home games have drawn sellout crowds, and earlier this year the Akron at Kent game was also a sellout at Kent's MAC Center. By the way, tonights game starts at 7pm vs. Central Michigan, and there ARE tickets available. Maybe I'll see you there. One more "by the way", the Zips womens team is also having a record breaking season. Be still my heart.
ONE MORE BASKETBALL NOTE, THE Cleveland Cavaliers are, oh never mind. Did you hear the rumors? LeBron James might return to Cleveland after completing his contractual obligations with the Miami Heat. How do I know this? Well I read it on the internet, so it must be so.
MORE SNOW ON THE WAY TONIGHT, but only an inch or two...enjoy. I'll talk to you in the morning at 9am on 640 WHLO. Jim
