IT IS AMAZING WHAT WINNING WILL DO for a local sports team. I am stunned by the number of people who are talking about the University of Akron basketball team. The Zips had won 19 games in a row before falling to the Buffalo Bulls last Saturday night in Buffalo. They had also been ranked in the Top 25 of the USA Today Coaches Poll. Of course the streak is over and the Zips are no longer ranked in the Top 25, but people are still talking and buying tickets for upcoming games. Akron will host Miami of Ohio tonight and Kent State on Friday night, and the Kent game is already a sell out with few tickets remaining for the Miami game tonight. Believe it or not, Mid American March Maddness begins next week in Cleveland. You would have to figure the Zips are the favorite, but that only means everyone in the MAC will be gunning for them (including the Kent State Golden Flashes). It should be fun!
WHILE I'M ON THE SUBJECT OF SPORTS, the Indians have already sold out Opening Day at Progressive Field next month (the game sold out in 6 minutes). The Tribe made many changes during the off season, but they just can't shake the CLEVELAND CURSE!! Their BEST picture is already suffering a shoulder injury. The team hopes to have him back for the regular season, but we know better...don't we? Go Tribe!
LOOK OUT FOR THE WEATHER IN THE NEXT 24 hours. Some in our area will get snow, some rain, some both. The southern part of the 640 WHLO listening area will probably get A LOT of snow, while the Akron area will get a mixture of precipitation, thus cutting down on accumulation. Hang in there, Spring is only 15 days away.
JOIN ME TOMORROW MORNING FROM 9 to noon on 640 WHLO. Jim
