SAW A STORY THIS WEEK THAT MADE ME not only shake my head, but wonder if things like this happened years ago and we just weren't made aware of it. A boy in suburban Philadelphia died after getting into a fist fight at school. Some have said he was bullied while the police say it was just a fight. The parents say he was jumped by two classmates last January. He suffered a broken nose and a concussion. The next day he started suffering seizures and was put into medically induced coma. His grandmother added that he needed blood transfusions after getting pneumonia. I don't think there are too many of us who did NOT engage in a fight or two when we were young...but to kill a kid??? By the way, the two other kids involved were suspended from school for two days. Police have yet to determine whether they will face charges. Again, with the 24 hour news cycle as well as the internet, television, radio, newspapers, etc, maybe this type of story is reported today as opposed to yesterday when news outlets consisted of just newspapers and radio. Whatever, a kid dying after a fight...God help us!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF Akron basketball team. With last evenings win over Miami, the Zips locked up their second consecutive Mid American Conference regular season title. The great backyard battle between Akron and Kent State happens this Friday at the JAR, the final game of the regular season. Kent has been playing MUCH better ball lately and has locked up the number 4 seed in next weeks conference tournament in Cleveland.
