HAD A CHANCE TO VISIT CANAL PARK over the weekend and saw the Akron Aeros throttle the Binghampton Mets 13-3. Also met the new Aeros owner Ken Babby (seems like a wonderful guy)! He has promised to join us on the radio show this Wednesday morning. The time is set for 9:05am so listen in to a guy who really believes in hard work and keeping the customer satisfied.
TODAY IS THE HOME OPENER FOR THE Cleveland Indians and it looks like the weather will cooperate. Temps will be in the 60's at 4:05 (first pitch). If you are going, you'd better bring home a winner. Today is also the championship game in the NCAA's annual college basketball tournament. Michigan will face off against Louisville at 9pm tonight. This truly is a game that I will have mixed emotions. Michigan represents the Big 10 (which is good), but again IT'S MICHIGAN (that's bad). I'm just not wired to root for anything "up there". Rooting for Louisville, on the other hand, is like rooting for the 700 pound canary. Maybe I'll just pass this one up and watch reruns of Seinfeld. Seriously, Louisville is looking like a team of destiny this year and I figure they win in a great game.
I SAW A STORY IN THE NEWSROOM earlier, and it proclaimed that gas prices are about to fall. In some places they already have! There are a few states out west where petrol has fallen BELOW $3 a gallon (I'm not kidding). Other places are still hurting big time. Hawaii is over $4 and California just dropped below $4 (they are thrilled about that). How low will they go here? Your guess is as good as mine.
I GREW UP IN THE FIRESTONE PARK area of Akron, and have watched construction crews remove Voris grade school from the face of the earth. Some friends in the area have said it's a shame that much of the old school was just bulldozed into oblivion. One man even walked through a gate and picked up a couple bricks for old time sake. He was promptly told to leave and had the bricks confiscated. While I understand you don't want people mixing with a wrecking ball, it seems to me that the schools could sell items worth saving, from all the old buildings, and turn that cash over to the schools. Just a thought!
ENJOY THE WARMTH AND THE SUNSHINE and join me tomorrow morning at 9am on 640 WHLO. Jim
