SOME STORIES THAT I DIDN'T GET TO ON todays show....
Our loser of the day has to be Pamela Beck, although there IS a good argument to be made for Amie Peterson. You see Pam and Amie stopped at a Starbucks in St. Petersburg, (Florida, naturally) for a cup of coffee. In order to pay for her java, Pam set her bags down and wouldn't you just know it, the fully loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun she had in the bottom of her purse fired, hitting Amie very close to that very special place (north of her knees). The rest of the story is predictable...Pam forgot it was in her purse, it was a gift from her father and NO concealed carry permit. Prosecuters are taking a look at the case and Amie is probably REEEEAL mad at Pam.
WITH MOTHERS DAY IN THE REAR VIEW mirror, let me give you one more reason to appreciate mom. Insure.com figured that for all the work she does around the house (everything from cooking to handling finances) mom would earn $59,862 on the open market (Insure.com figures her hours would be much more than the standard 40 hours). Last year the figure was $60,182 and in 2011 it was $61,436. Why are her fictional wages trending down? That's easy, wages for domestic workers are down (just like most peoples wages). Hey mom, NO RAISE FOR YOU!!
IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT WE HAVE LOST OUR collective minds, this should end it. Doug Bartlett, a Chicago teacher with an outstanding 17 year career under his belt, was suspended without pay in 2011. Why? Glad you asked. He gave his second grade students a lesson on gardening tools (would I kid you?). Yep, the "hazardous tools" included screwdrivers, pliers and wrenches, which were kept in a toolbox on a shelf out of the reach of the kids. The children never touched the tools. So why was he suspended? Come on, you know, he exhibited negligence in supervising the kids and for "possessing, carrying, storing, or using a weapon". Why is this almost 2 year old story making news now? (I love all your questions) C'mon, Doug has recently filed a lawsuit against Chicago schools for humiliation and embarrassment as a result of his 4 day suspension. If I could sue for every time I've been embarrassed......
I WOULD HOPE THIS WOULD NEVER BE AN ISSUE for me, but the two brothers of Ariel Castro (the Cleveland Creep) say they knew nothing, saw nothing (you know...the full Sgt Schultz) about their brothers criminal actions. I believe them because how in the world could anybody allow the insanity to continue. I don't know about you, but brother or no brother, I'm singing like a bird if I know anything about something like this story. The Castro brothers (Onil and Pedro) gave an interview to CNN's Martin Savidge (former Cleveland TV reporter). I would think you could watch it at www.cnn.com.
HAVE A GREAT DAY AND JOIN ME tomorrow from 9am to noon on 640 WHLO. Jim
