AS IF YOU DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW, SUNDAY is Mothers Day. Let's see if I can come up with a few ideas for Mom...
TWO NEW FEATURE FILMS COME TO TOWN THIS weekend. First is "The Great Gatsby" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Toby Maguire. This flick is getting GREAT reviews, so it just might be a "must see." Craig Robinson stars in "Peeples", a comedy getting luke warm reviews. Maybe good for a bargain matinee!
MOM WILL GET FREE ADMISSION TO STAN HYWET Hall this Sunday. You'll have access to the mansion as well as the grounds and the conservatory. Hours for Mothers Day are 10am to 4:30pm.
TAKE MOM TO THE SPECIAL "MOTHERS DAY BRUNCH" at Menches Brothers in the Shops of Green in Green. Reservations are strongly suggested. Call 330-896-2288.
THE FUNNY STOP COMEDY CLUB IN CUYAHOGA Falls features hypnotist Anthony Potmesil aka "The Mind Bender" tonight, Friday and Saturday with a special adults only show this Monday May 13th.
FINALLY, 'THE 39 Steps' continues at the Weathervane Playhouse through May 19th. Get tickets and information at www.weathervaneplayhouse.com. Meantime the Akron Art Museum continues with 'The Snowy Day' and the art of Ezra Jack Keats. Info at www.akronartmuseum.org.
I HOPE TO TALK TO YOU TOMORROW AT 9am on 640 WHLO. Jim
WITH THE AMAZING STORY COMING FROM CLEVELAND, you may have missed a few items so let's get caught up....
CAME ACROSS A STORY FROM CHESAPEAKE BEACH Consulting and a Democratic outfit called Lake Research Partners. They conducted a study that resulted in an odd conclusion. The two groups found that when a female political candidate runs for office, if her appearance becomes an issue, she WILL NOT win her race...even if everything said is positive. Research found that if voters read about her appearance, her favorability rating falls 11%, her likeability goes south by 6% and her "Qualified" rating shrinks 5%. Why? Couldn't tell you!
I DID MENTION THIS ON TODAY'S SHOW, BUT DIDN't get into it. Two new studies indicate that gun related deaths in the United States have dropped by 39% since 1993. Meanwhile, the number of gun deaths per 100,000 people has dropped from 7 in 100,000 in 1993 to 3.6 per 100,000 people in 2010. Maybe there's some truth to the theory that if a creep thinks you may be packin', he'll move on to someone else.
IN CASE YOU MISSED THE RESULTS FROM YESTERDAYS election, Barberton, Coventry and Manchester schools passed levys, while Cuyahoga Falls and Mogadore folks said NO!!! Maybe the economy is improving somewhat. Three years ago, the schools couldn't pass gas!
I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHY, BUT I'M REALLY TICKED off about this supposed psychic...Sylvia Browne...who told the mother of Amanda Berry in 2004 "She's not alive, honey." Amanda's mom was of course desperate and probably looking for any port in the storm. Well guess what? This "phony" sent her to her grave thinking her little girl was dead. This fraud appeared on the Montel Williams Show with Louwana Miller, Amanda's now deceased mom. I know Miller said she believed in psychics "98%". Maybe I should be angry at the producers of Montel Williams crapfest. Going for ratings at the expense of a grieving mother is f*$ked up.
THIS HAS BEEN ALL OVER THE NEWS LATELY, but in case you missed it...the East Coast is about to witness a cicada invasion. As many as a trillion of the little red eyed devils are about to emerge from the ground from New England to the Carolins along the east coast. Ohio is not supposed to be part of the action. The cicadas have been waiting 17 years to emerge, and this is the year. By the way, they will be looking for one thing...sex. This should be loud. After all, how would you feel after 17 years of going without?
HAVE A GREAT WEDNESDAY AND JOIN ME TOMORROW morning from 9am 'til noon on 640 WHLO. We'll have all the latest on the story in Cleveland. JIM
THE STORY OF THE THREE WOMAN FOUND IN CLEVELAND IS TRULY AMAZING! I'm sure you know by now that three young women kidnapped individually some 10 years ago have been rescued alive from a home on Clevelands near west side. We know much about the story, but there is even more we don't know. Three men (all brothers) have been arrested in the case and will be interrogated by Cleveland police. What roles the three played in this crime has yet to be made public. I also wonder about the 6 year old child that was removed from the house with the women. News reports indicate the child belonged to one of the women (Amanda Berry). Berry was also the one who somehow escaped the house and contacted police as well as a next door neighbor (you'll find his interview with Cleveland TV on my blog...right here). I'm guessing that when we learn more about this story, we are going to discover three young people who are brave, strong and were able to support one another during what had to be a god-awful situation. Bless them!
WE HAVE ANOTHER SITUATION HERE IN AKRON THAT IS SIMILAR TO THE CLEVELAND STORY. A 19 year old woman was driven by her mother to a home health care job on Kipling Street in south Akron on Friday night. When the mother went to pick her up on Saturday morning, she was nowhere to be found and hasn't been heard from since. When (Taylor Robinson) didn't show up for her second job at Chapel Hill, police became involved. Taylor is currently a student at Kent State Stark, going for her nursing degree. Family, friends and police report this is VERY unusual. She is a good student, a responsible person and this is very UNLIKE her to be out of touch with loved ones. We also have her picture on this website (640WHLO news). Akron police would like anyone who thinks they might have seen something to contact police. Authorities have nothing to go on at last report. Taylor's home is on Archwood Avenue, also in south Akron. Bless her and her family.
